23. Mermaids in Science


Iliyana Racheva What are mermaids? Are they simply the figment of a creative, often drunken imagination of ancient sailors or have they truly existed? The presentation sets out to answer these questions. Hypotheses of existence, culture and possible extinction are discussed.

28. Pliny the Elder


Marisano James Pliny the Elder is the author of Natural History (also known as The History of the World), a 37 volume series of texts that set out to describe nature in great detail. The presentation focuses on the life (and death) story of this man and his many accomplishments, as well as some problems with his works.
29. Scientific Diving - Meet the Monsters Philippe Ankewitz The history and types of diving are discussed. Important questions such as "Can we rely on Robotic Diving" are debated.
