26 Kilometer Istanbul
02. June 2010
The project 'Urban Tomography' shows a digital portrait of the city Istanbul, recorded through the method of a cross-section and displayed in form of a video installation in the exhibition space. The concept intends to create a 'space-time compression of a city at one single point'. Along a 26 km long straight line across Istanbul, 3 videos are simultaneously recorded within one day (same moment of time). This videos will be displayed on 3 monitors in the exhibition space of Marmara University. The 26 km line corresponds to the East- West extension and situation of Istanbul. The Axis is positioned at the historical landmark of Hagia Sofia (center point). A cross-section of the public space is transferred by sound and image into the exhibition space. The confrontation of 'micro and macro' or rather 'milieu and large scale' results in an audiovisual city portrait 'at the same moment of time'.
