Robin Masters loses his signed Picasso, expensive old wine and other
things in a poker game to a card shark. Then he bets the estate,
his Hawaiian house, on a victory by his softball team.
Magnum searches for Jerome Kappelwitz, the ex-husband of one of his
team mates. Jerome is a former professional baseball player.

This is the one and only time Thomas wears an "away" Tigers cap. When
the Tigers play at home their caps have a white "D". When they play on
the road their caps have an orange "D". Also at one point he wears a
baseball cap from the University of Southern California, where Selleck
played junior varsity baseball in college.
4.8 068 12/01/83 A Sense of Debt

Magnum flies to Detroit to look for someone who debts money to T.C., and of
course to watch the Detroit Tigers. Meanwhile, Magnum lent the Ferrari to
T.C. who collides with a man who is a boxer. T.C. has got to fight the last
two fights for him because the man would lose all his money if his
contract isn't completed.

This is the first episode in which the Makai Pier is used as T. C.'s
helipad. Lou Whitaker and Alan Trammel, members of the Detroit Tigers,
guest star as does Shannon Doherty (_Heathers_, _Beverly Hills 90210_).

Magnum hears Holly Hudson alias Holly Fox on local radio station KTDE.
He remembers her voice from Radio Vietnam. She is terrified by a perverted
caller.

This episode contains the first reference to the Tidewater area of
Virginia as being the place where Thomas grew up. A prop error exists
when the birthday sign for Higgins on T. C.'s chopper comes and goes from
one scene to the next near the end.
4.10 070 12/15/83 Operation: Silent Night

Magnum, Higgins, T.C. and Rick are stranded on an island because the
helicopter broke. It seems that they have to celebrate Christmas there.

team coached by T.C.. But the prince often tries to run away, so his

glove signed by Kaline in this ep., a signed bat ("I Witness", "Paper War"),
and a copy of Kaline's rookie baseball card ("Infinity and Jelly Doughnuts").

On Masters' estate, a party takes place where the guests have to come
dressed like famous people from the 1920's. It is a charity party for
an institution for hard to educate boys. Higgins is "out of order" because
he is injured by a croquet ball that struck him on the head.

There is quite a bit of discussion of the fictional beer Old Dusseldorf
in this ep. The Army/Navy game is mistakenly said to be taking place in
Pasadena, CA on Thomas' television. Riding to the airport in T. C.'s van,
they use stock footage of the van traveling along the coast. The only
problem is, in the footage they use the van is going in the opposite
direction from Honolulu International!

A woman from Masters' bank wants Magnum to observe her father Herbie
"Rembrandt" Norton, who made her expensive gifts althogh he just came
out of prison weeks ago. By accident, the woman locks herself and Magnum
in the bank vault.

Actress/Comedian Carol Burnett (_Annie_) begins a role that she continues
in "A Girl Named Sue". Jillie Mack (_Hooperman_) appears here and again in
"Professor Jonathan Higgins". She and Selleck were married a few years
later.

Alexis Carter, a singer and old wartime friend of T.C.'s, comes to Hawaii
to find a guy who debts $18,000 to her (David Mitchell).

By this time in the series a new Ferrari 308 Quattrovalvole has replaced
the 1979 308 GTS that was purchased in New Jersey and driven across the
US as a promotion then shipped to Oahu for the premiere of the series.
Manetti reportedly bought the GTS for himself when it was replaced by
the Quattrovalvole. The scene near the end of a sedan going off a cliff
and crashing in flames is used again as stock footage in "Limbo".
Trumpeter Chuck Mangione guest stars.
4.16 076 02/16/84 The Return of Luther Gillis

practice playing Dr. Watson, the role he takes on in the 1990 TV movie
_Hands Of A Murderer_.

Thomas says that the estate's tidal pool was originally built as a place
to raise sea turtles. This is true in reality as well. The Eve Anderson
estate which is used as Robin's Nest is called Pahonu which means turtle
in Hawaiian. It was at one time a turtle farm.

Magnum helps the woman who was his first client as a private investigator
after he resigned from the Navy. Working for her in the present causes
him to continuously remember the past and events seem to be following the
same pattern.

is directed by Roger E. Mosley. Editing error: T. C. wears different
headsets in different scenes while in the chopper.
